What True Self-Care Really Looks Like: Simple Daily Practices That Make a Difference

True self-care means prioritising your wellbeing every day, not just on ‘special’ occasions. Often, self-care gets sidelined because we’re too ‘busy.’ The good news is that you don’t need to overhaul your life to improve your wellbeing—small changes can make a significant difference.

Experiment - choose something that you enjoy and choose to devote just 10 minutes to it each day for a week. See what difference it makes.

Some suggestions:

  • At the end of each day, take the time to reflect on what went well & what you would like to improve. Make one goal for the next day.

  • Take a walk - ideally in nature

  • Call a friend who makes you smile and laugh

  • Get up and stretch your body - forward/back/side to side

  • Spend 10 minutes doing box breathing (or do 2 x 5 min sessions over the day)

  • Do something kind for someone else

  • Go for a walk and actively notice the things around you - what do see and hear that you have never noticed before?

  • Practice standing on one leg - see how long you can balance for (this has great long-term physical benefits also)

  • Start meditating - break it up into 5 x 2 min sessions to make it easy to get started.

  • Gratitude Journalling – write down a few things each day that you are grateful for.

  • Listen to Music – pick your favourite songs or some calming music

  • Reading – read something you enjoy for 10 minutes each day
