How ‘dis-comfortable’ are you?
Discomfort is not something we naturally enjoy. However, growth doesn’t happen from staying in your bubble; it comes from embracing challenges and stepping into the unknown, even when it feels daunting.
Being ‘dis-comfortable’ is where the real magic happens – discomfort is like fertiliser for growth. It’s kind of like working out – you don’t see muscle growth unless you push past the point where it feels easy. The same goes for personal and professional growth. If you’re too comfortable, chances are you’re not stretching yourself enough to discover new strengths or capabilities.
Discomfort develops new learning in many ways. You are forced to adapt, problem-solve, and find new ways to succeed. It’s how you build resilience and confidence. Think about your past experiences when you’ve made it through the discomfort, you realise that experiencing the discomfort was worth it—and that you’re stronger and more capable for the experience.
Reflect:
· How ‘dis-comfortable’ are you right now? How does this align with your aspirations?
· How do you typically respond to discomfort? How could you shift your response to allow for more growth?
