Time Poverty - a choice?
Time poverty is linked to lower well-being, physical health and productivity. For some, time poverty is an outcome of simply trying to survive. For others, they create time poverty by choice – choosing many priorities and then struggling to juggle them all.
Exercise to explore your time utilisation choices:
Do an audit on how you use your discretionary time (including extra hours at work). Consider the following questions for each item:
1. What benefits does it bring to your life? What “costs” does it bring?
2. Does it (or will it) increase your overall wellbeing?
3. How does it align with your values & goals?
4. How do you feel when you are doing it and afterwards?
5. What would you prefer to do more than it?
6. If you stopped it – what would be the overall impact on your life?
