Quality Team Conversations: Exercise and Questions for Effective Communication

Often teams get caught up in the day-to-day tasks and deadlines, neglecting the conversations that truly matter.  Fostering open, honest dialogue within teams isn't just about building rapport—it's about cultivating a culture of trust, collaboration, and shared purpose.      Unleash the full potential of the team by understanding what really matters.   So often, new understanding brings significant positive change.

Experiment:

  • Initiate one meaningful conversation with a team member.

  • Ask questions, actively listen, and create space for authentic dialogue.    What did you learn and what will you do differently as a result?

  • Share your learning.

Some questions to better understand what matters to your team members:

  • What aspects of your work are most important to you?

  • What are your core values that guide your actions and decisions at work?

  • What kind of projects and challenges excite you most?

  • What is the most challenging part of your role currently?

  • How do you prefer to receive recognition and feedback?

  • How do you prefer to share information - verbally, written or ?

  • What are you future career aspirations?

  • How can I better support you?

  • What activities and hobbies do you enjoy outside of work?

  • Is there anything you would like to share, that we have not discussed?
