How to Seek Feedback for Growth: A Simple Self-Reflection Practice
We often hold back helpful feedback from others, even when it could spark real improvement. Whether you're a leader or focused on personal growth, proactively asking for feedback is a powerful habit. In this post, you'll learn a simple yet effective way to uncover blind spots, reinforce strengths, and make meaningful progress—on your terms.
Of course, it can be confronting and difficult at first to receive feedback – recognise the emotions arising and try to focus on the feedback as a gift that will ultimately help you become better.
Exercise:
- Identify one area where you think you are strong
- Identify one area where you would like to improve
- Identify one area where you are unsure how others perceive your efforts
For each area, seek out feedback for each from those that are directly impacted by that area.
Reflect on the feedback received – what can you do more of, what small changes can you make to improve and what do you need to sit with and reflect on further (or gather more information)
Identify a few small actions to focus on over the next 4-6 weeks.
Repeat the exercise and see what has changed.
